Myotherapy
Myotherapy, also known as trigger point therapy, is highly successful in pain relief, and dysfunction of both chronic and acute conditions. It treats both muscle tissue and fascia, or myo-fascial syndromes. Myotherapy usually works quickly and cost-effectively to provide lasting relief. Pressure is applied to myo-fascial trigger points and tender spots to release spasm or 'tight' muscles, then the muscle group is exercised, stretched and strengthened, to aid in proper healing. Trigger points collect in the muscle tissue as early as birth, and from injuries, sports, surgery, and repetitive occupational patterns. When a trigger point is established, it can hide for years until it is activated by another injury or even by stress.

Bonnie Prudden Myotherapy® has its origins in the medical discipline of trigger point injection therapy pioneered by Janet Travell, M.D. and therapeutic exercises and immediate mobilization developed by Dr. Hans Kraus.  Bonnie Prudden founded Myotherapy and introduced Myotherapy to the world in her book, "Pain Erasure the Bonnie Prudden Way," published in 1980.

Over 90% of pain cases are muscle related, and myotherapy is a method in which the client participates in the healing process, and can help prevent recurrence.
Using a client's history, their pattern of pain and a map of basic patterns of trigger points, a Myotherapist begins the process of deactivating trigger points in involved muscles. The number of sessions required depends on your current condition, your previous history, age and lifestyle, as well as the presenting situation. Some clients choose to benefit from regular maintenance appointments. Check with your doctor.

Myotherapy is highly effective for both recent and long-term muscle-related pain. Pain and dysfunction often cause anger and frustration that can cause the situation to worsen. Pain can restrict breathing and stop your life...it is important to seek treatment...the sooner, the better. But, never give up looking for what will get you the relief you seek.
